Laundry Tips for Elderly Independent Living
- If space allows, have a chair in the laundry area to avoid fatique while standing.
- Use a wheeled laundry cart or basket on top of a wheeled table to carry items.
- Use GRAVITY - laundry shute, throwing, to get clothes downstairs.
- Front loading washers and dryers can be raised on blocks to raise the opening and eliminate bending.
- AVOID IRONING. Try to purchase clothing that requires little or no ironing.
- If you must iron, sit, using an adjustable height board.
- If possible, leave your board set up for easy access.
- Sit down to fold clothes.
- Make one trip when distributing clothes, in a sequenced manner, rather than making numerous trips back and forth.
- Do a little each day rather than saving it all for one day
