Computer tune-up tips to keep your PC running smooth

Most computer problems come down to operating system issues that can be remedied with repair, restore or reset features that are built into your operating system, or with clean-up software that is either free or cheap compared to computer replacement.
In fact, following a simple schedule like this can keep your system running smoothly most of the time by preventing the accumulation of junk software and junk files from piling up on your computer. I suggest a schedule something like this for a "typical" or "average" home computer user:
Once a week, do a full shutdown of your computer system. Many computer users find it convenient to just let their computers "go to sleep". But doing a full shutdown allows important Windows updates, software installations or removals, and other background maintenance routines to run to completion, and gives your system a chance to self-check.
Every month or two, I suggest running a hard drive disk check (go through C-drive properties, or "Run" chkdsk); run a program like System Mechanic or Glary Utilities or Ccleaner for general clean-up); and clear the "cache" or "temporary internet files" from your web browser software.
Every three to six months is a good time frame to consider scheduling an computer support house call for more detailed diagnostics and tune-up. This is a good point also for organizing and clean-up of surplus files and folders, which can be a little tedious but worthwhile. Organizing files and folders is best done using your "Windows Explorer" or "File Explorer" program.
Light users may not need to do these tasks as often as active computer users. All of these tasks though will contribute to keep your computer running faster and more reliably than if they're never done.
If you need some guidance or tutoring on any of these tips just call for an appointment time at your convenience. When possible, I'm glad to clarify these things over the phone as well.
